After what was hopefully a nice, relaxing, long (but not long enough, hehe) summer break it was nice to come back to school and see all of our old friends and meet some new ones! We have welcomed many new faces to our school this year, both students and staff. The first week of school was spent sharing about our summers and getting to know everyone in our class.
September was busy with visitors, assemblies and field trips! Oh my! We had our first visit from Crime Not to Read. Our class was able to go Sage picking at Nose Hill (its a big job gathering sage for the entire school!), and we had tons of fun at our school wide field trip to Granary Road. We learned about Treaty 7, and had our Orange Shirt Day Assembly reminding ourselves that Every Child Matters! We also remembered Terry Fox by taking part in our own Terry Fox Run. Oh! and we tried our hand at curling with Rocks and Rings. As we go into October we are looking forward to Thanksgiving, Halloween and doing more with our new Health/Self regulation program called S.N.A.P. (Stop Now and Plan)...a program which has us learning from each other as we act out and role play various situations that may challenge our emotions/thoughts. In literacy we are working on ABC order, Parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs), and writing spoooooooky stories (also identifying parts of a story). In Math we are skip counting up a storm! Ask your kids to sing one of our songs. We are starting to see how if you can skip count, you can multiply! Science has exploring the Scientific Method, Force and Motion and soon we will be learning about Simple Machines!
